Cops and Kids was held in December 2020.  Meijer  again sponsored  this shopping event.

In 2020, we had to change things up with the COVID restrictions.  We could not take the kids to Meijer, so we took Meijer to the kids.  Officers first shopped and then delivered much needed household items, food, clothing, and of course toys.    In 2020, 23 law enforcement agencies, worked together and delivered to 43 families, impacting 93 kids in Wood County.   The success of this program is the result of the great support we got from the community.  It is more than shopping, it is about building positive relationships between the kids and the police officers.

Wood County FOP 109

The FOP Kids and Cops Program is designed to build relationships between local law enforcement officers and the community. Police Officers taking kids shopping for Christmas presents or school supplies shows those children that the police from their communities are friends and are always there to help. Giving a child a present, when they wouldn't have received one, or the supplies they need to excel in school, can make a lasting impression.

Our FOP lodge raises funds for this program by selling raffle tickets and seeking donations from the community and local businesses.  This tax deductible donation goes directly to the kids involved in this program.   Each kid was able to spend $100.00.  After picking out a coat and boots, they could spend the remaining money on toys.  This is a great opportunity for the officers and kids to do something positive together.

Meijer has been our host store the past few years.  Their continued support has allowed this program to continue to grow and be an important part of many families during the holidays.

If you are interested in helping with this program or become a corporate sponsor, please contact our lodge at fop109@frontier.com.  You can also call (419) 353-9728.

Donations are currently being accepted for our next Cop and Kids being held in December 2021.
